Alan and Gerri,

Pierre and I had a great time with the two of you on Civil Twilight.
At first I was concerned - Pierre has almost no experience on a
sailboat and I really wanted him to enjoy himself so we can do more of
this in the future. I was also anxious about being in close quarters
with two complete strangers. And of course I was worried about the
boat itself and whether the two of you would handle it well. It's
amazing we signed up at all given how much I had on my mind!

But - from the moment we hopped onto the boat - we felt comfortable.
First of all, kudos on a beautiful and exceptionally well-maintained
boat. I know Alan can find things that weren't clean enough but the
boat sparkled when we boarded. You made us feel right at home and you
are great hosts. There was great conversation but we never felt
crowded. I learned a few things but didn't feel like I was in a
classroom. I was amazed that Pierre took the wheel and you made it
easy for him to do so.

For myself, the sailing part was a real contrast with my racing
experience. I now understand why people say you should learn to sail
on a small boat. It would be really hard to get the feel of boat
handling from a large boat like Civil Twilight, and it was almost
impossible to really see the sails from under the bimini. Handling
your boat seems to require a lot more equipment savvy than I
imagined.  You might have been surprised by how little I wanted to take the wheel. I was really enjoying being a passenger and when I did take the wheel I was mostly ranging my eyes between the compass, the knot-meter, and the windex.
So I just let myself enjoy being a passenger - though watching Pierre
at the wheel felt great.

The food was excellent - the salmon in particular was just perfect.

Thanks again for hosting us.

Dear Gerri and Alan,
Mike and I wanted to thank you for hosting us on Civil Twilight. You were so easy to work with through planninguntil the day we sailed.  The boat was gorgeous and immaculate; you were such gracious hosts, we really enjoyed you company, too.  Thanks for the delicious meals, gerri, and the safe, relaxing sail-we both needed it.
We definitely will be back-next time Mike will try at the helm!

Hi Gerri and Alan,

You guys made us feel right at home from the start. We are thankful for you sharing your wonderful boat and time with us. It was almost like we were old friends except for you waiting on us but we know that that is part of the business. We would love to charter with you again.

Thanks again

Bonnie and I want to thank you for a wonderful eight day and seven night sailing adventure aboard Civil Twilight. Not trying to cram too much into a schedule and taking it easy a day or two was definitely the way to go and we are glad that we took your advice in this area.

Your local knowledge of the coastal islands of Maine was something that was invaluable in making our vacation the best and most relaxing it could be. That fact that all of these years of experience came at an investment that was only a few dollars more than a bareboat (actually less in many cases) makes a sailing vacation in Maine on Civil Twilight a bargain.

We’d like to especially thank you for giving us a level of service that was adapted to our liking. The casual and inviting atmosphere was one that allowed us to relax and enjoy ourselves as well as taking a turn at the helm occasionally. Bonnie and I managed to not gain any weight but it was certainly not easy with the tempting meals and snacks that were customized to our specific tastes. Dinners were tasty and well prepared and lunches underway were a nice variety of items. Oh yes, thanks for putting in so we could buy RedBull! LOL!!

We enjoyed everything from our Kayak explorations to our several hikes ashore at Isle Au Haute and Warren State Parks and the dinghy rides were fun too.

The accommodation arrangements on Civil Twilight were perfect for a couple arrangement and we felt at times like she was all ours..Your and Alan’s custom interior layout makes a great layout and we were comfortable and there was plenty of space to stow all of our gear and our cabin was great. Next time, we’ll bring fewer clothes, heck we only wore about 30% of what we brought… and there will be a next time in summer of 2009 for sure.

Bonnie and I wish you both smooth sailing and steady breezes and we’ll see you next season again.

We booked Civil Twilight for one day, Sunday June 8th. This was the highlight of our vacation, everything was perfect, The hosts Alan & Gerri were very friendly and informative throughout the entire day. This was our yearly family vacation and this was the perfect family activity. Although it is easy to see this could have been great for a romantic getaway also.

Lunch was great !! we stopped at Boothbay Harbor and grilled on the boat. Alan & Gerri handled everything, We just relaxed and checked out the sites, seals, lighthouses & the Bay it was Awesome. Our 9 year old son got to steer the boat when the sails were up which he absolutely loved, and is still talking about.

This activity is a must for families or a couple !!
